MAARC Holiday Party - December 6 in OBX!
Members of MAARC, it's that time of year again! The holiday party is upon us and I wanted to get the word out quickly, even before I have had a chance to dust off that tired old flyer again!
Due to a 'small fire' at the Elizabethan Inn, we will not be having the party in Manteo this year but we will be very close by in Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks. The party will take place at Mako Mikes at milepost 7 on US 158. They have a private dining room and will offer us a limited menu to order from. The club will be paying for dinner for drivers and navigators. Extra family members and guests can come along for $15 each. Since we are in a restaurant, we cannot do BYOB this year... members will be responsible for their own bar bill/drink tab.
However, Santa will be there to run the Chinese gift exchange as usual so bring along your Alfa and car related gifts (~$10 value) for the Alfisti to scrap over!
Group reservations have been made at the Days Inn & Suites - Mariner (at Kill Devil Hills - on the beach at milepost 7...this is not next to Mako Mikes but is within walking distance if it's not too cold out!). Ask for the Alfa Romeo Car Club rate ($53 standard, $62 oceanview; good for December 5-7, expanded continental breakfast included, and you must reserve by 21 November). Hope to see you there!!!

MAARC Mille Mille Route Links
Intrepid MAARC Mille Miglia participants and those who risk all to take the road less travelled:
Here are the links to the Mille Miglia route. I wanted to get it out for comments so I can tweak this weekend if necessary. The first three days are pretty well set. Be advised the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed pretty much between Boone and Asheville so that's why an alternate route was chosen. Also, sometimes you just need to "get there" as driving times for each day are already around the 6 hour mark. Starting time for each day will be 8:30 so we can arrive at our lunch stops no later than 1pm. Scenic roads were selected whenever possible with Interstate driving kept to a minimum. Suggestions are always welcome - especially for the lunch stops for the last two days. If you see any "dumb" road selections, let me know. I have tried to incorporate input from local Alfisti whenever possible.
DAY ONE - 8 OCT (ROANOKE RAPIDS TO RADFORD)
DAY TWO - 9 OCT (RADFORD TO ASHEVILLE)
DAY THREE - 10 OCT (ASHEVILLE TO AIKEN)
DAY FOUR - 11 OCT (AIKEN TO MYRTLE BEACH)
DAY FIVE - 12 OCT (MYRTLE BEACH TO ROANOKE RAPIDS)

MAARC Mille Miglia 8-12 October
In celebration of the MAARC's 25th year, the club will be having it's own Mid-Atlantic Mille Miglia Drive. This will be a five day event ending on Columbus Day weekend that will take participating members one lap around the entire Mid-Atlantic territory, from the Piedmont to the Blue Ridge mountains to the Atlantic coast and everything in between. Starting and ending in Roanoke Rapids, NC, members may choose to participate in all just one to all five days. The exact route is still being finalized, but the event schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, October 8th: Roaonoke Rapids, NC to Radford, VA (near Roanoke VA)
Thursday, October 9th: Radford, VA to Asheville, NC
Friday, October 10th: Asheville, NC to Aiken, SC
Saturday, October 11th: Aiken, SC to Myrtle Beach, SC
Sunday, October 12th: Myrtle Beach, SC to Roanoke Rapids, NC
Starting point will be the Jameson Inn hotel in Roanoke Rapids on 8 October. Roanoke Rapids was selected as the start/finish point as it is nearly equi-distant from Raleigh-Durham and Hampton Roads (our two major branch locations). For those who wish to arrive the night before, Jameson Inn has a group rate booked for the 7th. For those who do not want to stay the extra night, you can either arrive early on the 8th in Roanoke Rapids or meet the group at a scheduled rendezvous point in South Hill, VA. Also Jameson Inn is booked for the 12th for those who wish to stay over for a post-drive celebration party.
Group hotel rates have been arranged for all start/stop points along the route. Please note that in order to get the listed group rate, you must reserve your room no later than 30 days prior to arrival. Please note that due to the laid-back nature of the club YOU MUST MAKE YOUR OWN ROOM RESERVATIONS. If you prefer different accommodations than the ones listed, or cannot meet the 30 day deadline, feel free to make your own arrangements. Drive to the Mountains - 02 August
Note from Amedeo at Charlotte Branch:
Next on the list is our planned Mountain Trip for Saturday August 2nd with lunch at the Bluffs restaurant on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our meeting point will the BP in Roaring Gap known as the Pro Stop (green roof). If you are coming from Charlotte, take I-77 north to Elkin and then Highway 21 towards Sparta. As you approach Roaring Gap look for the post office and the BP is located soon after. Plan to be there between 11am and 11:30am. I have been told that from Pineville the trip should take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you are coming from Asheville it is your choice to meet us at the BP or the restaurant. By the way the Bluffs Lodge has two restaurants, one inside the Lodge and the other right on the parkway. It is the one on the parkway that we will have lunch. Please let me know as late as Friday Aug 1st if you plan to make the drive.
Here is the link of the restaurant. http://resorts.gordonsguide.com/bluffslodge/index.cfm
As usual please let me know that you are interested so that we can notify the restaurant how many to expect, as of now we have about 6 cars. If you lose this email (Mark) do not worry it will be repeated in my monthly newsletter."
